Queeny Rebel Empire aims to capture the intrepid moments of a hero's journey. I re-create scenes of personal and public histories. Since childhood, creating art in various mediums was a rush. My first mural was created at the age of four with my mother's red lipstick. Standing on my head I took this glistening red oil stick and made grand sweeping gestures (akin to Cy Twombly) on our clean cream walls. The lady bugs that I played with were the same hue. That same rush of troubled that followed led to my years as a graffiti artist where the moniker Queeny Rebel Empire (QRE) was born. For nostalgia purposes, I keep the name. Eventually, I traded writing on walls for formally studying art history and art at the University of Toronto where studied with the late Professor Buller whose influence can be seen in my abstracts and even figurative pieces.
The legacy brand of Queeny Rebel Empire (QRE) is dedicated to honoring one's inner child and painting the story of the hero's journey with explosive colours and found objects. Queeny Rebel Empire celebrates positive acts of rebellion, love, nature and humour that stand the test of time.
Queeny Rebel Empire invites the viewer into a world of curiosities that celebrates freedom in all its forms.
My studio is a place of solitude because I am free to paint whatever compels me. I find myself curiously exploring the personal histories of women, particularly the free spirits who were labelled as transgressors or libertines. Inspired by those who walked to the beat of their own drum, I tend to create visual enactments and images of past, present and perceived future events in history. I gravitate towards creating uninhibited scenes that encourage reflection about relationships with ourselves, one another and nature.
By featuring eclectic champions throughout personal and world histories, Queeny Rebel Empire (QRE) invites the viewer into beautiful bold atmospheres where acts of rebellion are applauded because we believe that luck favours the brave.
